Should I Go For HND After ND?
A lot of student have been asking some questions like “Should I Go For HND After ND?” We have decided to give a clear answer here.
When an admissions candidate asks if he should get a direct entry form after his ND or, better yet, go for HND, you get the sense that such candidates already understand what it means to go for Direct entry (thus crossing to a university) and Higher National Diploma (HND).
However, it is best to approach this question from the beginning and reach a conclusion as soon as possible.
When you finish your National Diploma (ND), you will have four options. You may;
1. Obtain a Direct Entry form in order to transfer to a university and continue your education
2. Go for a year of industrial training (IT) required before obtaining your HND form, which will allow you to further your studies as well,
3. Quit or suspend schooling and settle to start your own business or get a job with any organization and position you’re qualified for, or
4. Quit schooling and never do anything with your ND certification
Which of the numbers 1 and 2 is superior? Is ND preferable to HND and vice versa?
This post will answer this question with an open mind so that I am not biased. You will eventually be the one to make your own decisions. But I’m confident that your decision will be correct.
Go For Direct Entry If Your ND Grade is Good
Direct Entry (DE) is the best option if you have a very competitive and convincing polytechnic grade. An ND grade of Distinction or Upper Credit (with a higher GP) will give you an advantage in gaining direct entry admission. As a result, crossing to a university via DE is the best option.
Let’s get this out of the way first. You have a better chance of being admitted through Direct Entry if you have a Distinction or Upper Credit at the end of your 2-year National Diploma. With Lower Credit or Pass, your chances are not only slim, but also daunting.
The reason for this competition is that each university has a limited number of direct entry candidates compared to the number of candidates competing for those spaces. Some courses will accept no more than 5 DE applicants.
As a result, the university/department in question will want the best of the best.
With the exception of a few less competitive universities (usually the more expensive state and private universities), DE applicants should not pursue Direct Entry admissions with lower credit or pass rates.
Frequently Asked Questions

Conclusion
With the points above, I’m sure you have a good idea of what will determine whether you should pursue Direct Entry (DE) or Higher National Diploma (HND) after your National Diploma. The grade is the answer.
However, having a lower ND grade, particularly a lower credit, does not guarantee that you will never be considered for direct entry admission to a university. However, a university that accepts such will be far less competitive, as will the course.
