Around the year 1970, Bishop mike okonkwo had an encounter with God that resulted and persuaded him to join the united church of Christ with the acronym UCC, after a year of worshipping there, he was ordained a pastor. 

It was noted that his work with UCC is a very lively one in which he also assisted them in opening several branches around Lagos. 

In the year 1981, it was decided by God for him to move on and work on something else that is when the idea of the redeemed evangelical church came into existence through him in the month of January 1981
