What is Spiritual Warfare and how do Christians engage

The Christian concept of combating the work of supernatural evil forces is known as spiritual warfare. It is centered on the biblical belief in bad spirits, or demons, who are considered to intervene in human affairs in various ways.

Prayer is a frequent method of “spiritual warfare” undertaken by Christians. Other techniques may include exorcism, laying of hands, fasting with prayer, praise and worship, and oil anointing.

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places”. (Ephesians 6:12)

When it pertains to spiritual warfare, God has indeed given us victory. We can triumph because Jesus did.

As Christians, how do we fight spiritual warfare?

Apostle Paul wrote to the Ephesus church in Ephesians 6:13-17 (NIV) “Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”. here  Paul outlines how we should fight this unseen mental battle.

  What is Righteousness?,

When we fill our imaginations with God’s reality of the situation, we can readily tell what is true (I am loved by God and created with purpose) and what is not (No one cares about you. Your life is a waste of space).

Similarly, when we try our best to practice righteousness by loving God and others, we shield our hearts from succumbing to bitterness and unforgiveness, which are breeding grounds for Satan’s falsehoods.

James, Jesus’s brother, encapsulates all of these beliefs in a single command: “Be submitted to God.” Resist the devil [stand firm against him], and he will flee from you. “Close to God, and He will close to you” (James 4:7-8).

FAQs on Spiritual Warfare

Is it true that angels and demons exist?

Yes, angels and demons exist on earth. God created angels as spiritual beings (Colossians 1:16). Demons are former angels that were expelled from heaven together with Satan (Revelation 12:4).

Is spiritual warfare still practiced today?

Yes. When we wake up each day, we have the option of serving our flesh, which is our sinful nature or listening to the Holy Spirit. “No one can serve two masters,” Jesus declared. You will either dislike one and adore the other, or you will be committed to one and despise the other” (Matthew 6:24).

What we devote our time to determines our success in the spiritual fights we encounter on a daily basis. This can include reading the Bible, choosing to worship when everything is going nuts, and making time to pray.

Is it possible for a Christian to be possessed?

We were born with a mind, a body, and a spirit. We were designed to be spiritually engaged. The Holy Spirit dwells within Christians (Romans 8:9-11, 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 6:19). Our bodies are referred to as the “Holy Spirit’s temple.” So, just as there is no place for anyone else in a hotel room when it is inhabited by the Holy Spirit, a Christian is occupied by the Holy Spirit and cannot be filled by anything else.

Conclusion

When it comes to spiritual warfare, there are two major mistakes to avoid: overemphasis and underemphasis. Some attribute to sin, dispute, and issues to demons that must be cast out and expelled. But Others utterly disregard the spiritual realm and the fact that the Bible says we are fighting spiritual powers. Finding biblical balance is the key to a successful spiritual battle. Sometimes Jesus cast out demons, while other times He cured individuals without mentioning the demons. The apostle Paul advises Christians to wage war against their own sin. (Romans 6) and warns us to reject the devil’s schemes (Ephesians 6:10–18).
