The concept of a holiday celebrating mothers was first proposed in 1872 by Julia Ward Howe, who had observed that Mother’s Day is celebrated in the United States. She suggested that it should be commemorated in England as well.

Mother’s day as shown by studies was known to be celebrated firstly in the year 1908 when Anna Jarvis wanted to show honour to her mother who died as a symptom of breast cancer. Ohh, what a painful death. 

This celebration was held in the United States and The service was attended by only six people but it had been a success as she managed to make it an annual event which eventually spread across America and other parts of the world over time.
