Faith over Fear: What Does the Bible Say about It?

Life is full of many ups and downs; and no one can say that they are entirely free from facing challenges in life. However, there is a joy that comes with daily victory- when one chooses faith over fear and scuttles past worry and anxiety.

Are you having a difficult time? You don’t have to be sad or depressed. There is always a way out of the mess you’re in. The Bible has a bunch of assuring promises that will help you navigate your difficulties and come out victorious.

Just a moment, and you will find out what the Bible says about exercising faith over fear.

Bible Teaching on “Faith over Fear”

You might have heard a lot of sermons about choosing faith instead of fear, and still be worried about “nothing.” But Jesus Christ, in Mark 4:40 is asking, “Why are ye so fearful? How is that you have no faith?”

Exercising faith over fear is all about trusting God for a breakthrough when the realities of life hit you hard. It is the assurance you have over worry and anxiety.

But is it an easy thing to do? If exercising faith is that easy, there will be no reason for fear in anybody’s life. No matter how strong you think you are, there comes a time in everybody’s life when things suddenly go south, and there seems to be no solution.

It is at such a critical moment in life that God is expecting you to stand strong, be courageous, and trust in the salvation of the Lord.

There are characters who chose faith over fear in the Bible during the worst times of their lives. Job, for instance, did not allow his loss to get the best of him. Paul and Silas also demonstrated great faith when they sang and praised God in prison. Daniel and the three Hebrew brothers also chose faith against fear, even when they were thrown into the burning furnace.

So there is a challenge for you, that there is no reason to accommodate fear during unpleasant situations. But how do you exercise faith when you are scared?

How to Exercise Faith instead of Fear

We noted earlier that it is easier said than done- to keep an unwavering faith when life isn’t smiling at you- but as a child of God, there is a way to carry on without gassing out.

Here is the promise of God for you during hard times:

Isaiah 43:2 assures us that “when thou passeth through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

This assurance levels up in 2 Corinthians 12:9 when God addresses the weak and faint-hearted directly saying, ” My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.”

Therefore, to put your faith over fear, always say this simple prayer: “God, increase my faith.” That is according to the prayers of the apostles in Luke 17:5.

You need to ask for more grace daily, because your strength is not enough to carry you through. Again, you should always meditate more upon the word of God to find more strength in times of need.

That is how to grow in faith and face your fears instead of worrying about nothing.
