Matthew Ashimolowo Early life

On March 17, 1952, Matthew Ashimolowo was born in the Military Depot in the Military Hospital Zaria, Kaduna State, Nigeria. Salau Asimolowo and Aishat Asimolowo are his parents.

Matthew spent his entire life in the Zaria barracks until 1966, when he relocated to Ibadan, Oyo state. Growing up was not easy for him because his Muslim father was a chronic gambler who lost all of his military wages. His mother suffered from postpartum depression with the birth of her second child, from which she never fully recovered until her death in 1986.

He never imagined himself as a Pastor, but rather as an Army Officer and Engineer. His ambition was to construct bridges and dwellings. He became a Christian at the age of 20 after his father was killed in the Nigerian-Biafran War.

After his father died, Ashimolowo converted to Christianity from Islam at the age of 20 before enrolling in a Bible school.
