Top 10 Nigerian Songs, 2022
The year 2022 saw Nigeria witness a successful turn of events, with a lot of super-talented musicians releasing awesome tunes for our listening pleasure. The artistes, both old and new did not hesitate to bless us with melodious contents to keep us going.
From Kizz Daniel to Mavins, Omah Lay and lots more, here are top 10 songs we consider the biggest from Nigeria this year:
Calm Down – Rema
Rema witnessed wide acceptance with his musical achievements this year when he dropped his new album, Rave & Roses, in March of this year. Prior to that, he had shared the lead single from the project “Calm Down,” a guitar-led mid-tempo compostion produced by Andre Vibez and London. The song is famed to be one of the hottest this year. In August, 2022, Rema dropped a remix of the song with American artiste, Selena Gomez.
Overdose – Mavins, Crayon, Ayra Starr, LADIPOE, Magixx & Boy Spyce.
When the Mavins Records boss, Don Jazzy himself mobilized the new generation signees for a collaborative song which he produced by himself, we were certain it was going to be a banger! The groovy, melodious love song became a hit once it released, and we haven’t been able to get enough of it.
Finesse – Pheelz ft. BNXN
This was and will remain one sensational song released this year. The song blew into the mainstream Nigerian internet space, becoming very widely used on TikTok and Instagram videos.
Buga – Kizz Daniel ft Tekno
Kizz Daniel and Tekno unarguably did one of the best collabos in Nigeria with their smash hit “Buga.” It’s a bright and lively affair, just like their supremely addictive earworm of a song.
Last Last – Burna Boy
Burna Boy, the African Giant, did it again with the release of his new album, Love, Damini. While there are many songs from the excellent 19-song album that “Last Last” recorded extraordinary success. The singer revealed in an interview with The Guardian that he made the most money from this track than any other song off the album.
Kolomental – Victony
Victony plays on his own sonic turf. His songs are laced with influences that go beyond Afropop, and on his most recent release, Outlaw, those traits meld into fully realised bops. “Kolomental” from that tape demonstrates his mastery of masterful lyrical arrangement as well as an acute ear for great beats.
Sungba (Remix) – Asake ft Burna Boy
“Sungba” is the first single from Asake’s new project, which follows his signing to Olamide’s YBNL. Asake’s sound is less traditional Afrobeats and more like a mash-up of Fuji and Street, which has served Bella Shmurda, Zinoleesky, and others. The song went viral on social media before becoming a national hit, piqued Burna Boy’s interest enough for him to join in on the remix.
Bandana – Fireboy ft. Asake
This groovy song, from the stables of YBNL nation artists Fireboy and Asake, is a breath of fresh air that will leave its listener refreshed and relaxed. Both singers’ vocal quality reverberates throughout the song, making the listener happy.
Understand – Omah Lay
Omah Lay was on fire once again this year, having made big moves in his musical journey. He released his album “Boy Alone” which included the hit song “Understand” and a feature with American artiste, Justin Bieber.
Machala – Carter Efe ft. Berri Tiga
Instagram comedian and skit-maker took Nigerians by storm when he dropped the song titled Machala which he said was inspired by and dedicated to Wizkid.
The groovy, soft but danceable song was very successful, climbing the top of charts.
